The Sony Breach Investigation Provides Unprecedented Detail
On November 24, 2014 an unknown cybercriminal hacked the Sony’s systems, leaked confidential data, damaged the brand of Sony and many of its talent and executives – many of whom are still feeling its effects. In addition, the malware rendered many Sony employees’ computers inoperable with their screens displaying a warning by a group calling themselves the Guardians of Peace (GOP). Unreleased movies were leaked, executive e-mails were exposed, Sony’s Twitter account was compromised, employee’s private information was divulged, and terrorist threats were made to Sony and theaters if they showed the yet to be released movie “The Interview.”
Since the attack “Operation Blockbuster” has allowed us to see in detail the anatomy of the hack by The Lazarus Group. This whitepaper lays out the findings of the investigation in storybook form.
